Bluebells

In early spring, bluebells (Mertensia virginica) grow in profusion under sycamores and apple trees along the first stretch of the Hidden Valley Trail on the Jackson River, especially before the wide field on the right gives way to woods. The trumpet-shaped flowers, common in flood plains, are well adapted to the moist soil under the canopy of hemlock and sycamores.
